Meet the Team
Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary has two full-time caretakers who live on site, Veterinary Staff, and volunteers helping on a regular basis with the day to day running of the shelter, adoptions, social media and shelter visits.
founder & treasurer
Christine is originally from the UK but has lived in Asia since 1995, primarily in HK and Thailand. She moved to Dumaguete with her husband Robie in August 2015. She has had a life long love of animals and a life long dream of opening an animal sanctuary - finally that dream has come true. Christine is also a trained therapist working with attachment, addiction and trauma.
Marmel is from Dumaguete and is Scrum Master. She and her husband Lloyd ( board president) run The Kindness Project PH (a local business that promotes kindness to every kind) and Tindahan ni Maria (a concept store). Both businesses help them in their rescue and foster efforts. Lloyd and Marmel started rescuing animals around 10 years ago—usually puppies or kittens found on the road.
Janah is originally from Dumaguete and grew up surrounded by aspins (local Philippine dogs) which opened her eyes to how smart, loving and loyal they are. As a child, she always had a soft spot for strays and dreamed of a shelter in Dumaguete where she could volunteer and help however she could. She managed to do that briefly at IRO during her college years in Cebu. Janah is a dentist with her own practice here in Dumaguete.
founder & vice-president
Robie is an addictions counsellor originally from Manila, but after meeting Christine while they were working together as counsellors in Thailand, he moved to Dumaguete. Robie oversees the day to day running of the shelter, answering messages on the facebook page and managing the ongoing construction projects at the shelter.
Lloyd is from Dumaguete and is a Quality Analyst by profession. He has always had a love of animals and in interest in animal welfare. He and his wife Marmel ( our board Secretary) regularly rescue and foster puppies and then after they are healthy - find homes for them.
Estella Trujillo Petersen
Estella has always loved dogs. Their family adopted every stray that wandered past their house in her hometown of Sante Fe, New Mexico, US. She rescued her first dog from the highway she traveled daily on her way to Dumaguete and found a greater passion in helping these unfortunate and neglected animals. She brings her many years of wealth management experience to fund raise for this great cause.
