Little Coco was dumped in a sack by the side of the road. Unable to walk, she was totally terrified and confused. She has scoliosis (an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine), deformed legs and an enlarged heart. We suspect she was kept in a cage and used for breeding - then discarded like a piece of trash when she was no longer useful.
Although Coco couldn’t walk, so was so energetic and full of life, and absolutely loved racing around in her wheelchair! But her hind legs were in the way, so we recently decided to do a double amputation. Sadly, special needs dogs rarely get adopted, so we were worried that she’d spend the rest of her life at the shelter.
Estella and Paul already had 7 dogs, of which 6 were adopted from DAS. So although Estella had fallen in love with Coco, Paul was understandably hesitant about taking in yet another dog.
But Coco is a special little girl and it’s hard to resist her charming personality! So eventually Paul and Estella decided that they just couldn’t let her spend another day at the shelter.
We could not have asked for a better home for Coco. She’ll have 7 other dogs to play with and she’ll have space to scoot around in her wheelchair. But most importantly, we know she’ll be showered with love every single day.
Thank you so much Paul and Estella for welcoming Coco into your family. We will miss her terribly, but we’re so grateful that she’ll be living her best life with you.
