Destiny
In early March 2023 we got a report of an older dog stuck in a hole unable to get out. It looks like she was cared for, as she was in good condition - just unable to move her hind legs. That doesn't stop her trying to escape every time we take her out into the long grass opposite the Sanctuary!
Destiny's Story
On 9 April 2023, we picked up a older dog with paralysed back legs. By the looks of her injuries, she has been this way for some time. It seems she may have an owner as despite being thin, her fur is in good condition. The best we can do for Destiny here is to bandage her legs so she can scoot around without getting sores. Even so, this situation at the Sanctuary is far from ideal for her.
This is exactly why Destiny needs to live in a home with smooth flat surfaces. As her injuries seem to be quite old, it’s unlikely that she will ever regain the use of her hind legs - although we will of course explore all available treatment options.
We have had some limited success with pet wheelchairs on even, relatively clean surfaces. Now that we have our new van, we plan on doing excursions with disabled dogs to flat concrete surfaces, where they can scoot around more freely.
So this wheelchair from @lovepluspet really came at a perfect time! It was the right size for Destiny.
Initially she didn’t quite understand what she was supposed to do, but after some encouragement in the form of treats and cuddles, she soon started to get the hang of it!
If you can offer Destiny (or one of our other special needs dogs) a home, we would be so very grateful.
