Louie
Living in a shopping mall car park, Louie had survived a number of car impacts, until one time he was run over and couldn't move.
Despite this, he remained friendly from the start, and continues, despite the need to finally amputate his leg.
He is a gorgeous dog and very "adoptable"!

Louie's Story
Louie was a stray that lived in the carpark at City Mall in Dumaguete. He was one of about 4 dogs that the security guards fed.
The guard who reported him said he had been hit a couple of times by cars previously but this time, he was sleeping under a car and the car ran over him. He couldn’t move so the guard called us.
We think he is around 2 years old.

His femur was completely dislocated, and there is nowhere in Dumaguete that can do bone pinning so the only option left was amputation.
Once Louie’s blood results were normal ( he was anemic when we picked him up), we scheduled amputation.
We amputated his leg on February 4th and the next day he was walking around the quarantine kennel.
He recovered well, spending most of his time with a few buddies in one of our bamboo kennels, but always comes out tail wagging to greet volunteers and visitors. Louie is not the first amputee at the Sanctuary - but the future is bright for him as his character shines through, and apart from a few early balance problems, he looks set to have a long and happy life with the right family.

Louie
Here are some video clips of Louie before, during, and after his surgery. It is clear his leg is completely separated and cannot be saved.

Gandalf and Louie Adopted!

Gandalf Louie Kate and Paolo
Patience is a virtue! Gandalf was rescued by Kate and Paolo of ECE Consulting some months ago, and was placed at the Sanctuary to recover from severe mange and malnutrition (see Gandalf's Profile Page for his full story).
The lovely Michai was also lined up for a new home alongside him, but she fell victim to Pancreatitis due to her weakened state following her Distemper infection and died (see her story on her Remembrance Page).

Michai
Gandalf too had Distemper, but managed to fight it off, and now we are happy to report that LOUIE is joining him in his new home (you can read Louie's full story on his Profile Page). Despite being run over several times, and having to have his right hind leg amputated, he remains the happiest of dogs, with a winning character, and will be an inseparable buddy to Gandalf in their new home together.

Louie
Our heartfelt thanks to Paolo and Kate for providing a new home for these two!
