On 27 March 2023, a report today of a stray dog who is being fed by some local people. She gave birth around a week ago but all her puppies died. They messaged us because her abdomen was seriously swollen. We called her Nana.
We went to pick her up afternoon and thought it very possible that either there were dead puppies inside or she had Pyometra, basically an infected uterus.
Doc Pierre came up to check her and put her on iv to make sure she is hydrated for her surgery. During the procedure, Pyometra was diagnosed, meaning she had a septic uterus and her abdomen was filled with fluid, with Doc Pierre drained - more than 7 kilos of fluid.
For a while she was in a critical condition, but we believe she's turned a corner towards recovery as her appetite had returned. We are keeping her under observation and hoping the worst is over for her.
