Coco
In early May 2023 we got a report of a young paralysed dog dumped in a sack by the side of the road. The injuries were not new, so she has been abandoned by some heartless owner. Despite this, she is very energetic and inquisitive, and has every chance of a happy life given the right adopters and support.
Coco's Story
On 3 May 2023, we picked up a poor little girl with paralysed back legs. By the looks of her injuries, she has been this way for some time. That people can neglect and just abandon their pets in this way is beyond comprehension - she was totally terrified and confused.
She tested negative for distemper, parvo and parasites.
Although we can't know exactly what happened to her, we are guessing she was kept in a cage and used for breeding given the state on her mammary glands. And then discarded when she was no longer useful - perhaps after the event that caused her to become paralysed.
Abandonment of a dog is a crime punishable with a prison term. Animal cruelty has to be punished. We need people to step up and speak of what they see and know. This little girl did not deserve this.
We would love to find a home for Coco once she is well. If you can give her love and care and a safe home, please message us. We are so full at the Sanctuary, we really need special needs dogs to go to a home.
We are still considering how to move forwards with regards to her back legs. There is no possibilty of repair.
Use of wheelchairs at the shelter is not an option - we have tried repeatedly but the terrain is too uneven both inside and outside and the dogs constantly tip over or get stuck. Ideally we can find her a home where she can use a wheelchair - or she can shuffle around.
She has a lot of enthusiasm and energy and absolutely loves being outside. She is not in pain and is NOT a candidate for euthanasia.
Now we have the big new van, we will be doing regular excusions with our disabled dogs so we can take them out to flat areas to run around in wheelchairs. We will need to get a small wheelchair for her that she can take with her if she is adopted.
