Dan
In July 2023, we took in old dog who'd been hit by a car and was already very thin and had bad mange. We wanted to give him a chance to recover, if he could, or at least provide some comfort for his last moments. Two months later, Dan is looking completely different, and ready for a comfortable retirement home!
Dan's Story
We are trying to limit rescues right now and treating a lot of dogs on the street instead of bringing them into the Sanctuary, but some we just cannot leave outside.
Dan was one of them.
When we picked him up on 7 July 2023 he was in such bad shape - really thin, full of mange and had been hit by a car.
We didn't know if he would make it, but sat with him for a few hours stroking him and telling him he was safe and loved. We gave him a comfy bed, put him on iv and medications to help.
That's all we can do.
He had an appetite, which is always a good sign.
He hardly moved for the first two or three weeks at the Sanctuary.
We have treated him with antibiotics and medication for Mange, and Red cell and multi vitamins for his low red blood cell count. Nearly a month in, he began to try to walk around.
Two months at the Sanctuary and he's now a different dog. From a nearly dead, hairless, crusty, emaciated stray, to an elderly gentleman enjoying his twilight years in comfort. He would be no trouble at all to the right family who could give him a dry corner, regular meals and a some regular loving and kind words. Everyone needs a Dan in their life!
