We rescued Davey in September 2022 after reports of a dog with a missing foot, but to our horror discovered a much worse injury to his rear end that was even more severe. With time, and medication, we hope he can regain some health - he is such a gentle boy despite everything.

Davey's Story
On 7 September 2022, we took in a dog reported with a missing foot and lower leg. When we got him to the Sanctuary we were horrified to see that his anus was infested with maggots which had been eating the tissues inside. We administered first aid, did blood tests and then sent him to Animal Wellness for emergency treatment as we don't have a fulltime vet.
Davey's infection
He was weak from blood loss, and tested positive for Erlichiam, a tick-borne parasite that affects platelets so we began treatment immediately. He didn't like being in a cage initially, but he calmed down under the kind influence of our staff at the Sanctuary. We just hope we caught his condition in time, and he can fight his way back to a state of good health.
