Fenn's Story
On 29 April 2023, we caught sight of a thin scrap of a dog caught in a barbed wire fence. We did initial blood tests and he has worryingly low red blood cells, and an under-functioning thyroid, and ultrasound showed lumps on his liver. A noticeable head-twitch indicates he suffered through and recovered from Distemper at some point in his life.
His neck was extremely swollen and infected. We are not sure how long he had been stuck in the barbed wire but it must have been very painful for him. At least he was eating well. After a week, he was able to stand for short periods before collapsing.
Eventually he was stable enough to return to the Sanctuary, and come off his IV. He clearly has mobility issues that may improve as his strength returns. One of the most rewarding parts of doing this work is seeing them slowly start to trust and eventually start to play. We look forward to that moment when he has the stamina to walk around a little, interact, and maybe even play. That is the transformation that love, safety and good food can so often elicit.
