Hairy
Hairy came to us from another Animal Welfare sanctuary in July 2019. He looks like he has some Wolfhound in him, and is still very nervous around strangers. He is probably round 8 years old.
hairy'S STORY
Hairy was castrated and treated for mange, but only a few days after we brought Hairy in, he escaped. No matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t get near him. He never left the area outside the shelter so we fed him outside and slowly tried to gain his trust.

Then one day, we opened the gate and he just walked straight in!
He kept himself to himself for a while and lived in the office area.
He had a lot of problems with bronchitis for a while, probably due to living outside for so long but it cleared up with antibiotics.

He is now so much more sociable with shelter staff – I have attached a video of his reaction when he sees me.
He lives in a pack who inhabit the bamboo kennels on the left hand side of the shelter and his best buddy is Iron.
We think he is around 8 years old, and it looks like he has some kind of wolfhound in him. Sadly, it is unlikely he will be adopted as he is not sociable with strangers - he is not aggressive in the slightest, he just runs away. We are working with him to bring him out of his shell.

Over the last few weeks we have noticed his fur starting to look a little pink in places which indicates a fungal infection. It's a common problem at the shelter as the dogs live outside and the fungus grows everywhere. The only way to deal with this is to bathe them in mycocide shampoo two to three times a week - which is what we have been doing with Hairy.
He doesn't like the bathing one bit!
We have also begun to try and leash train all the dogs now that we have more staff. We are trying to spend as much individual time with each dog as possible. We started just getting him used to the leash on his neck but he was not ready to walk yet.
Hairy is really shy of strangers but is very friendly with me, Rudylun and and the caretakers. Apart from his skin problem, he has been OK health-wise this month.
He doesn't spend as much time with Hairy as he used to - though they still sleep in bowls next to each other. He has now started a friendship with Judy, but he still loves his bestie Hairy!
