Lily is around 8-10 years old and was surrendered to the city Vet for Euthanasia because her owners just didn't want her. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her.

lily'S STORY
Lily was rescued in July 2019 from the City Vet as she was about to be euthanized. The vet said that her previous owners had brought her in to be put to sleep because she was old and they didn’t want her anymore. The vet called us and asked if we would take her.

She was clearly traumatized by the whole event as she was terrified when we brought her in. We were still building the shelter at the time and didn’t have quarantine kennels so we let her sleep in the room that is now the vet clinic. She didn’t leave her mat for 3 days and wouldn’t look at us.
She started to become more sociable over the next couple of weeks and now is super friendly but she is still shy around potential adopters when they come to visit.
She is really good with other dogs and at times will get quite playful and do ‘zoomies’ around the shelter.
She is a healthy dog and rarely gets sick though recently she got Erlichia – a tick borne bacterial disease that can be fatal if not caught and treated quickly. Treatment is 3 weeks of doxycycline antibiotics.

She spends most of her time now lying on top of the garbage bins outside of the vet clinic. She doesn’t really have a best friend but will spend a lot of time with Ziggy, sleeping in the bowl next to him.

She really is the sweetest dog and I hope one day we can find her a home as she would just love to be sitting next to her own human on the sofa!

Lily has not been too well this month as she has Erlichia which is a tick-borne disease that can be fatal if left untreated. We use anti-tick medication for all our dogs but it doesn't stop the ticks biting and transmitting, it just stops them holding on to the dog.
Signs that a dog has Erlichia are lethargy and loss of appetite and pale gums from Anaemia. We tested Lily's blood and she had really low platelets which is a sign of Erlichia.
Treatment is Doxycycline antibiotics for three weeks and also Immunol for boosting the immune system. She has now completed her antibiotics and her last blood test was normal. She has started to become more active again in the last couple of days so we believe she is fully recovered. We have just started leash training too. She's not the most enthusiastic student....
