We had reports of a puppy that was the victim of a hit and run, and we couldn't leave him out in the heavy rain. He had a fractured pelvis, similar to Shaun's injury, but as a young dog, we hope he will make a full recovery.
Markus's Story
On 5 October 2022, an immobile puppy left out in the rain after a hit and run was reported to us. With nobody stepping up to help, Estella our Adoptions Manager went and picked him up. She took him immediately to Animal Wellness for xrays and he was found to have a fractured pelvis.
This is the same injury that Shaun had when we rescued him and with cage rest, being so young, this puppy hopefully will make a full recovery. We called him Markus, and is on his road to recovery with us. We raised over 6,000 pesos for him in a the space of a day, but with his injuries, he will need three times that amount before he is ready to be adopted. We are now in a position to rescue only if the rescue costs are sponsored, with more than 150 dogs at the Sanctuary.

We were relieved to see him poop and wee on his second day with us, which is always a concern for hit and runs as it could mean severe nerve damage and the inability to pass waste. The only option we would have in this case is euthanasia. Luckily that is now not going to happen!
We let him out a few times every day for a short while, as his movement needs to be restricted while his fracture heals, and we hope he will soon be able to join the rest of the dogs in the Sanctuary and wait for his new owners to come and find him.
