Nick's Story
On 29 September 2023, the day before we lost Shaun, we rescued a dog in a desperate, but we didn't have the emotional resources to deal with it so we asked Doc Marvin at Companion Animal Doctors Veterinary Clinic to help. Him and his team went to pick up the dog and looked after him for a few days while our team regrouped after losing Shaun.
We called the dog Nick.
Despite the terrible state he was in, he was responsive and friendly. The vets were unsure if his tissue would ever grow back, so everyone agreed that euthanasia was the kindest thing to do for Nick. While the vets were preparing the euthanasia meds, Rina - our Shelter Manager - suddenly had a strong feeling telling her not to euthanize him. She ran over to stop it, and asked for three more days.
Against all odds, Nick started to heal very quickly. The two vets that are on his case are amazed by the progress he’s made so far. What’s even more remarkable, is how calm and friendly he’s been through it all. He must be in terrible pain when we treat his wound, but he’s such a good boy. It’s like he knows we’re here to help him, and things will get better from now on. The laser therapy from our new machine, made possible from many donations from our recent fundraiser, is working miracles. Let's hope Nick continues on his path to recovery.

Nick In September 2023, we rescued a chained dog with the most terrible flesh-eating infection. Despite this, he had a strong desire to live, and plenty of appetite.
