Rescued on 7 May 2022, Percy's hind left leg appeared to have been hacked off, and he was in poor shape. Amputation will be necessary once he is fit enough to undergo the surgery.
Poor Percy, he must have been suffering for so long. The people who reported him say that they heard he was owned by someone who died and he was left to fend for himself. They have no idea what happened to his leg, but likely hacked off.
We rescued him on 7 May 2022, after the reporters managed to contain him so he couldn't escape.
Percy tested positive for Ehrlichia, Heartworm and Anaplasma which indicates a long road ahead of treatment. Luckily and surprisingly his hacked leg is not infected. Before we can do amputation we need to get his skin in good condition as he is full of mange. If his skin is not ok the surgery wound won't heal well when we amputate.
His red blood cells are low, his liver slightly inflamed and he has infection and inflammation likely from the mange. Mange is caused by microscopic mites called sarcoptic mites. We will deworm, give him Nexgard and feed him up!
