Pippa's Story
On their way into work, staff had been feeding a mother and pup, hoping they would start to put on weight and get back to a more healthy state. But the morning the of 8 August 2022, the mother was lying, very weak on the side of the road with her puppy next to her.
We of course brought her in. She has some problem with her eyes and is very weak still.
We called her Pippa and her puppy Pepper. Sadly, neither are doing very well - Pippa began refusing food, so we placed her on an IV and gave her antibiotics for her infection. She didn't make sufficient progress, and a few days later her breathing became laboured. We called her Pippa and her puppy Pepper. We took her to Animal Wellness as we are all out of chemicals for our own blood machine and we found that her kidneys are failing. Her kidney function readings were off the chart. We had long discussions with Doc Amy at Animal Wellness and decided to continue to treat her for a few days and if it's acute her kidneys should improve but if it's permanent they won't.
We hope her story has a happy ending, not just for Pippa, but also her son Pepper, who is lost without her.

Pippa
We have such sad news. Pippa didn't make it. She passed away at around 3:30pm on Tuesday 16 August at Animal Wellness.
We really hoped her kidneys would recover but tragically they didn't.
She leaves behind a son, little Pepper, who is currently in foster care.
Thank you to everyone who donated for Pippa. We gave her every possible treatment with no expense spared because of your generosity.
Again, we take comfort in the knowledge that she knew love and care, free from pain in the last few days of her life.
So sorry sweet Pippa, run free.
Sometimes this is all that we can do.
