Salvador
Using funds available through fundraising for the late Seth in March 2022, we rescued a very old dog and called him Salvador.
Salvador's Story
In light of the sad passing of Seth, we used the funds we raised to rescue poor Salvador, or Sal for short on 9 March 2022. After the usual intake tests - a distemper test, a 4dx test for parasites and heartworm, a CBC blood test and a full blood chemistry to check organ function - and surprisingly he came back clean.
He began to gain strength, and ate very well, which pleased us greatly. He had the wariness of an old street dog, but had a great appetite which was a really good sign.
In late March however, Salvador's stomach became enlarged so Doc Pierre did an ultrasound on him and discovered that he had something called Ascites - fluid in the abdomen. He drained the fluid and also we found out he has stones in his bladder. Ascites can be a result of many things, kidney failure, heart failure, liver failure.
We did a full blood panel but there was nothing in his blood tests to indicate either kidney or liver problems so we sent him to animal wellness for x-rays on his heart.
While he was there, Doc Gama did a thyroid test and we found out he has low thyroxine levels and also that he has a right sided heart condition and hypertension.
Salvador is a very old dog - at least 12 or 13 years old. A lot of what he is suffering is due to old age and life on the streets. We put him on all the necessary meds and for now he is comfortable.
