Waffles' Story
On 9 April 2023, we responded to a report of an old dog, collapsed and unable to walk at a popular beach resort.
Like many of the strays here, he was just ignored until the person who reported him gave him some food and water and called us. We bought him back to the Sanctuary and tested him for Distemper, luckily for him he was negative. We called him Waffles.
He had one eye missing and was covered in mange and very thin. He was very dehydrated and severely anaemic but his kidneys and liver were ok. It's so so sad to think that he would have died on the beach in the blazing sun had we not taken him in. Please try to help if you see a dog in distress as we just can't rescue them all. At least move it into shelter or shade and give it food. There were hundreds of people and plenty of food being eaten at that beach today. Thank you to the people who did try to help.
He had a really bad ear infection, a systemic bacterial infection, anaemia and was still struggling to stand up or walk. We also suspected he was blind in the one eye he has. We are doing everything we can to save him. We will use Sodago Stem Cell eye drops as we have had such good results with it so far. He's on vitamin B, C and vitamin A injections, antibiotics, Black Armour to boost his immune system. He has bad mange but because of his weakened condition we don't want to give him Bravecto or Nexgard as it could be too strong for his system right now. We just hope it is enough to allow him to fight back to some level of comfort and health for his declining years.
