Penny
On September 18 2021, we rescued a dog who had most likely been hit by a car, and been lying for a couple of days before a kind soul reported her, and stayed with her till we arrived as flies were already gathering.

Penny on a drip
She was so thin and covered with ants, flies and maggots. We put her on an
IV and gave her pain reliever, anti inflammatory medication, antibiotics and Ivermectin to kill any maggots left inside her wounds.
We noticed she had trouble breathing, so gave her medication to help clear the fluid in her lungs, most likely a result of a particularly severe case of Pneumonia. In addition, she was Anemic, and had Heartworm, a parasitic infection. Despite the extensive medication we were able to prescribe with the generous help of a couple from the US, the odds were simply stacked too high against her, and she stopped breathing around 2pm on Wednesday 22 September 2021, surrounded by the Sanctuary staff who had been sitting with her, stroking and talking to her as she slipped away painlessly.

Penny when rescued
It's utterly heartbreaking to witness dogs like Penny suffering and not be able to save them.
We are so, so sorry Penny.
